You may have noticed I haven't posted on the blog at all this school year and it is already October. This year our school system has elected to change our website in order to be ADA compliant so we will soon have a whole new look.  With this change will come the discontinuation of this blog.  Instead I will be creating a website on our new platform.

Change is always a bit challenging and goodbyes are hard but I am confident our new website will make the library accessible to everyone.

So checkout the new website which should be coming soon!

And Happy Halloween!

Neuroscience and Reading

Happy New Year!  It has been a while since I have posted.  Fall was a busy time here at HMS and the library blog got lost in the shuffle.  But it is a new year and I am excited to post an amazing article about the neuroscience behind reading.  Specifically, the article deals with the changes in the brain when a person reads.  Librarians will often tell anyone who will listen that reading makes a person smarter.  And there are studies out there to prove this assertion.  But this article explains what happens in the brain in an easy to understand format.  So read this short article and hopefully you will be convinced that reading is more important than ever.
